Willo Flood insists he will put his family first when he finally makes a decision on his footballing future.
The Dundee United midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season and is currently weighing up an offer from the club to stay at Tannadice.
The former Celtic and Middlesbrough player has been in outstanding form for United this season and is sure to have attracted interest from elsewhere.
However, no matter where he ends up playing, he is determined that wife Antoinette and his young family will remain settled in this area.
He said: “The club are still speaking to my agent at the moment.
“I am just concentrating on getting this season out of the way and then I will sit down with my agent and my missus and take it from there. I have really enjoyed my time at United and I think we have been good for each other.
“Obviously, everything has to be right for me and my family to stay.v My family are really settled here and I think even if I was to move to another club, my missus would still live in the same house.
“If my family are happy, then I am happy and she has done enough moving about so it is time we settled somewhere. I think this is the place she wants to do that.”
Flood’s form this season was formally recognised when he received the supporters’ player of the year award at the weekend.
While he was flattered to pick up the accolade, he admits that his overriding feeling at the moment is one of frustration about his side’s run of top six defeats since the split with United actually sitting sixth in the table, two points behind Aberdeen in seventh.
However, he insists that any side in the SPL would struggle to cope with the crippling injury list that has dogged United this season.
He said: “I was delighted to be named the supporters’ player of the year.
“It is nice that people appreciate what you have done but we are still raging that we managed to finish in the top six but since then we haven’t played well. It hasn’t been good enough.
“It is frustrating when you look at the league table but Aberdeen are playing teams that are lower down in the leagues than us so they are going to have easier games.
He added: “But we haven’t clicked since we got into the top six.
“We just need to get back to playing well and winning games before the end of the season. We have missed big players this year. I think that has taken its toll and we are a bit threadbare squad wise.
“Dillo (Sean Dillon), big Gav (Gunning), Basher (Barry Douglas) and Keith Watson are all out. That was our back four at the start of the season.
“Any other team in the SPL that are missing their back four like that who say they wouldn’t struggle would be telling lies.
“It is important people remember that. We have also missed Johnny (Russell) for a bit of the season and Gary Mackay-Steven for a lot of the campaign.
“Our squad is just not big enough to cope with that amount of absentees. We are missing big players and unfortunately it has shown in the last few games.”
Meanwhile, like Dillon, John Rankin has played his last game of the season and is expected to undergo a knee operation to get him ready for pre-season.
