Mountaineer Cameron McNeish championing natural beauty of Angus

The scenery and landscape of Angus is being championed by one of Scotland’s most famous mountaineers.

People from across the country and the North of England have been targeted by a campaign to get people into the county, and Cameron McNeish is helping endorse Angus’ natural credentials.

VisitScotland has teamed with Angus Council during the Year of Natural Scotland 2013.

McNeish’s voice will be heard on Explore Scotland’s Natural Trail, which comprises an interactive digital guide, national print advertising and a radio campaign.

He said: “This is the Year of Natural Scotland and I would encourage everyone to get out in Angus and discover it for themselves.

“Here there are impressive landscapes, wildlife, culture, local produce and historical attractions, and what better way to experience these things than to get involved in Explore Scotland’s Natural Trail and enjoy the natural Scotland we can all be proud of.”

An author and broadcaster, McNeish is an authority on outdoor pursuits. The radio advert highlights the Corrie Fee National Nature Reserve and Montrose Basin Nature Reserve.

The county’s jewels of adventure are all combined into accessible trails.

Angus Council’s tourism spokeswoman Mairi Evans said: “In Angus, you can enjoy Scotland’s awesome scenery, from rugged coast to magnificent glens, and you can do it in a single day.

“We also have plenty to stimulate the mind and the taste buds, with history around every corner and some of the country’s best produce. Natural Scotland offers visitors a wonderfully rich experience and we are thrilled that Angus is part of the campaign to promote it.”

The “year” provides visitors with the ideal opportunity to become immersed in all things Scottish. Jim Clarkson, regional director of VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Angus Council during the Year of Natural Scotland 2013, which is a golden opportunity to promote Angus as a great destination for a day out or for an extended break.

“Angus is a natural fit for this themed year, boasting so many great natural assets and we’re proud to have Cameron McNeish heading up the Explore Scotland Natural Trail campaign for the region.”
