Scattered showers did not dampen the spirits of former weather presenter Cat Cubie and hundreds of other well-dressed women at an otherwise sunny ladies’ day at Perth Racecourse.

The annual event, which raised cash for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, sees women flock to the seven-race meeting in posh frocks.

One of the most glamorous events in the Scottish calendar, it aims to pull in almost £10,000 for the charity, which funds research into finding a cure for the disease.

Siobhan McGeary, 25, and Claire Campbell, 28, of Dunfermline, were at the races for the first time.

“People told us it’s fantastic so we wanted to see for ourselves,” said Siobhan. “We’re putting bets on the horses with names we like.”

The pair went shopping for new dresses and hats before the event.

“I spent more than one hundred pounds on my dress,” added Claire. “It’s a big day out and we wanted to make an effort.”Photo gallery: Perth Racecourse Ladies’ DayLucy Sim, 25, of Aberdeen, celebrated her hen do at Perth Racecourse with friends and family.

She said: “I’ve been planning it for a year. I just fancied the races and it’s for a good cause. I won with my first bet. I staked £2 and I got £2.40 back, so I’m feeling lucky.”

It was also her friend Rita Giannandrea’s lucky day. The 33-year-old, of Dunblane, won a 0.5 carat diamond in a raffle at the event.

Cat Cubie was on hand to judge the best-dressed competitions as well as draw the raffle and host a fashion show.

She said: “I’ve been a Breakthrough Breast Cancer Ambassador for two years. It’s a cause that’s very important to me.

“My paternal grandmother died of breast cancer in her forties and I never actually met her as a result.

“In addition to that, my mum is also involved in the research side of things so Breakthrough Breast Cancer, because of the work they do in Scotland, it seemed like a really good fit for me.”
