Unpaid carers in Angus, who often put their lives on hold to help a loved one, are to be given help to return to work.
A special event will bring together organisations such as the Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB), Voluntary Action Angus, Jobcentre Plus, Angus College and the DEAP employability “Steps to Success” programme.
In Angus 1,860 unpaid carers are registered to provide support, with thousands more non-registered carers also helping loved ones and friends.
Angus Carers’ Centre is holding the event to help carers look at ways to find support and information about taking up employment, training or volunteering.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “Looking after a family member can be a demanding and worthwhile task.
“However, it can be difficult for someone who has been in a full-time caring role to move into employment. It may be that circumstances change and the carer may be in a position to seek employment, or may be required to do so.
“This could occur through the caring role coming to an end or the carer feeling that they could combine caring with employment or other activities, such as volunteering or training.
“Learning skills such as computing and IT can be useful for moving towards employment and such activities can be a good way to increase confidence and also get an up-to-date reference.
“Support to update and adapt CVs for job-hunting is also helpful, especially as so many applications now are online.”
The meeting will take place on Thursday May 30 from 10.30am to 1.30pm at the Girl Guide Hall, Myre car park in Forfar.
There will be the chance to talk on a one-to-one basis about your own individual circumstances with the delegates and a buffet lunch will be provided.
