Art lovers in Angus will have the chance to check out the creative skills of the county at this year’s Angus Open Studios.
The studio doors of the area’s painters, sketchers, designers and crafters will be cast open to all to celebrate and promote the wealth of talented artists within Angus.
The annual event attracts contributions from all over the area and allows followers of art to walk into galleries and workshops to get a closer look at where some of the work comes from.
The event is designed to give an insight into the workspaces used by artists and an appreciation of what goes into the production of the work.
A spokeswoman for the event said: “There are a great number of talented artists, craftsmen and designer/makers in Angus, but many are a hidden resource at home and may sell elsewhere.
“So a group of volunteers founded Angus Open Studios (AOS) in January 2011 to raise the profile of local artists and craftsmen, as well as bring tourists and others into Angus.
“You will be able to buy works directly from artists and makers, give commissions, join up to classes and make contacts. They are often inspired to explore new themes or methods with ideas generated in discussion with visitors.
“You will have the opportunity to give feedback about their work directly not so readily available if they are usually exhibiting in galleries or public spaces.
“The AOS directories have become a valuable resource, used as a reference by buyers and exhibition organisers all year.
“Through open studios events across Scotland, visitor numbers to artists’ studios have grown enormously, as have sales and recognition for most people who regularly take part.”
The event takes place from Thursday to Monday. For more information on artists, gallery locations and studio opening times, visit the AOS website at www.angusopenstudios.com.
