Four people have been taken to hospital after a number of serious road accidents in Courier country over the weekend.
A man has been arrested following a road traffic collision that saw a woman “seriously injured” in Forfar.
Police Scotland confirmed a 39-year-old man has been charged following an incident in the town’s South Street at around 2.50am on Saturday.
A woman, aged 29, was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment to serious injuries.
Inspector Neil Anderson of Tayside Division described the woman’s condition as “critical”.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland Tayside Division are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact them on 101 or speak to any officer.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
The man is due to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Monday.
Later on Saturday, a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in an accident near Aberlemno.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the accident in Hillbarns at around 5.20pm.
A spokesman said: “Emergency services attended at the location and found a 14-year-old boy who had sustained serious head injuries.
“Any witnesses to the incident are requested to contact police on 101 or speak to any officer.”
In the early hours of Sunday, the emergency services were called to deal with a third serious accident.
A male pedestrian crossing the A92 at Salmond’s Muir, between Carnoustie and Arbroath, was struck by a silver Astra on the westbound carriageway at around 3am.
The walker was taken to Ninewells Hospital, and there is no more information on his condition.
Later on Sunday morning, a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital following a two-vehicle accident in rural Perthshire.
The man sustained serious injuries after colliding with a car at around 8.30am on the A85, one mile east of St Fillans.
Paramedics treated the male, who was described as being “conscious and breathing”, at the scene before he was transferred to Ninewells Hospital by Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
The road was closed until 10am to allow recovery work to take place.
Meanwhile, a motorist escaped injury when a black Chevrolet Lacetti estate struck the central reservation of the northbound A9 carriageway near Blackford just after 10am.
One lane of the trunk road was closed for about an hour so the vehicle could be recovered and debris cleared off the carriageway.
Police are appealing for witnesses to any of the accidents to contact them on 101.
