Ofcom inviting bidders for local TV channel for Dundee
ByThe Courier Reporter
The possibility of a commercial television service for Dundee has come a step closer.
Potential operators of local TV channels across the UK are being urged by broadcasting regulator Ofcom to express interest in a second group of licences for 30 cities including Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.
A 12-year deal to build and maintain the technical infrastructure needed for localised digital TV has already been granted.
This first phase of licensing included Edinburgh and Glasgow and some channels are expected to start airing on Freeview before the end of this year.
Ofcom has set April 24 as the closing date for registering interest.
It said it will consider all responses and publish further details on any future licensing rounds later this year.
Under the process it is possible channels could be on air within phase two locations, including Dundee, by the end of 2014.
