An 18-year-old Dundee College student suffered serious head wounds after being assaulted by two men in a busy city centre street.
Andrew Linn (18), of Auchterarder, was left unconscious and received stitches in the back of his head for a deep laceration, and suffered a badly bruised jaw and a black eye from the assault, which happened early on Thursday morning.
The first year accountancy student said the unprovoked attack happened while he was queuing for Fat Sams nightclub shortly before 1am.
“I just remember drinking at my friend’s house,” Andrew said. “I was in the queue and I was going to meet my friends they were either ahead of me in the queue or inside the club.
“They didn’t know anything about it until I phoned them this morning. It must have been right out of the blue because I’m a pretty big guy. I’m six foot two and I would normally have been able to fight back.
“The next thing I remember was waking up in hospital. My head’s really sore and my jaw feels like it’s broken and I’ve got the blackest of black eyes.
“My head’s been extremely rattled about. I think I got about six stitches in the back of my head. The police said I got picked up and I was covered in blood.”
Despite his ordeal the plucky teenager says he felt “lucky” not to have been more severely injured.
“I feel quite lucky that I didn’t get stabbed or anything. This probably wasn’t the worst eventuality it could have been.
“It hasn’t put me off going out in Dundee or anything I’ve never had any problems before.”
Police said passers-by called an ambulance when Andrew was left lying unconscious in Johnston Street, at the rear of Fat Sams, close to the Courthouse Apartments building and a short distance from the junction with North Lindsay Street.
The street would have been busy with people heading to and from the local nightclubs and police have appealed to clubbers to get in touch with any information.
The two assailants are described as being between 25 and 30, one being 5ft 9in, of stocky build, with short, dark, spiky hair and wearing jeans and a red or pink T-shirt.
The other is described as being the same height and build, with similar hair and wearing jeans and a sky or baby blue V-neck jumper. They were last seen walking away in the direction of North Lindsay Street.
Anyone with information on the incident can call police on 0300 111 2222.
