Dundee have all the momentum going into their crunch clash with St Mirren but they are not going to be fooled by the Buddies’ form.
That was the promise from Dark Blues’ boss Barry Smith as he looked forward to their pressure-laden fixture in Paisley on Saturday.
The Dens men will travel west in great shape and full of confidence following a brilliant win over Hibs that saw them move to within a point of the second-bottom Saints.
That means victory over Danny Lennon’s men would push them above their hosts and out of the basement berth that they seemed destined to fill all season.
It has been a remarkable turnaround, with the win over the high-flying Hibees adding to the draw with Motherwell and success over Hearts the previous weekends.
That haul of seven points out of a possible nine contrasts sharply with St Mirren’s miserable tally of six straight defeats stretching back two months.
However, Smith insists no Dundee player will be taken in by the oppositions’ sorry sequence of results.
He said: ”They are on a bad run but we are not kidded by that. We are under no illusions because they have still been playing relatively well even though results haven’t gone their way.
”We know ourselves that all it takes is one positive result to start turning things round.
”St Mirren had a good start to the season, which included coming here to Dens Park and winning 2-0. So we know what they are capable of on their day.”
The Dark Blues have also been warned by their boss that any drop in level of performance is likely to be punished.
Smith said: ”The boys have been growing in confidence because of past results but that will only continue through hard work.
”We can’t afford to just turn up and think things will happen for us as it doesn’t work like that in the SPL. We have to keep putting in a real shift.
”If we do that and keep cutting out the mistakes which were costing us earlier in the season then we will have a chance.”
Meanwhile, departed Dundee United goalkeeper Filip Mentel is training with Dundee after leaving Tannadice as a free agent.
The former Manchester City man agreed a deal to move on from the Tangerines on Thursday.
