She was dubbed ‘supergran’ after bringing a runaway bus in Dundee City Centre to a halt.
Yesterday Fintry woman Agnes Crystal was honoured by the Scottish Government for her ”extraordinary bravery”.
The pensioner met Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at a ceremony in Edinburgh, where she was presented with the St Andrews Award.
She was one of four winners chosen from 24 nominations saluted for their fearless acts.
It was last December when Agnes managed to prevent a major crash when she grabbed the steering wheel of the number 32 after its driver stepped off and the single decker started to roll down a hill.
She managed to run the bus into roadside railings and by doing so averted almost certain disaster.
Her quick thinking and bravery was praised by Miss Sturgeon, who said: ”It is a real privilege to meet with these four incredibly courageous people whose actions in the face of danger are an absolute inspiration to us all.
”Agnes, Angus, Abdul and Darren had already been selected by an independent panel to receive a Brave@Heart Award for their exceptional bravery.
”Their efforts are being recognised once again at our St Andrew’s Award ceremony.
”As we look forward to celebrating St Andrew’s Day, it is a fitting time to pay homage to four remarkable people who are a real credit not only to their own friends and family but to the people of Scotland.”
Without Agnes’ swift action, the bus looked set to roll down the steeply-sloping Blackscroft and cause a major city centre accident.
One passenger suffered minor injuries, while two parked cars were damaged.
Headlights were shattered and the front bumper of the bus was pulled away by the force of the collision, while a steel roadside barrier was left crumpled.
The windscreen also fell out, shattering on the pavement.
The other recipients of the St Andrews Award yesterday were Angus Blackburn from Penicuik, who saved a child from a burning house; Abdul Aziz of Aberdeen, who smashed a burning car’s window to pull a man to safety from the wreckage, and Darren Crow of St Abbs, who saved a man’s life by pulling him to safety after he fell into the sea.
The Brave@Heart Award and St Andrew’s Award replace the First Minister’s Commendation for Meritorious Conduct and the Scotland’s Heroes First Minister’s reception as the official Scottish Government recognition for bravery.
