DUNDEE UNITED defender Barry Douglas insists his side will start to reap rewards from the hard work they put in at home despite their recent poor run at Tannadice.
Saturday’s incredible 4-4 draw with Inverness earned United a point in front of their own fans, although United have now gone eight games without a victory on their own patch their last coming in the Dundee derby way back on August 19.
The weekend’s draw with Caley represented their best chance yet of ending that streak, having been 3-0 up in just eight minutes, but Douglas believes United will start turning their home form around.
“I didn’t even know anything about our record,” he said. “We just go into every game believing in ourselves and we know we’ll work hard, create chances and score goals. But we also need to keep out goals.”
Douglas added: “I think that’s something we need to work on a bit more. We just had to retain the belief that we could score another goal after they had gone 3-0 up.
“We’re just frustrated we didn’t get the win after such a great start, which annoyed the boys more than anything.”
United were disconsolate after Saturday’s draw a result which boss Peter Houston said “felt like a defeat” but Douglas took heart from his own performance, particularly going forward.
He added: “If I keep putting balls into the box I know big Jon Daly will score. Thankfully that’s another one he’s scored because of that so I’m quite happy with my form to be fair.”
