SCORES OF hardy souls braved the December chill to take part in traditional Boxing Day dooks.
Around 30 people, watched by a not so brave but supportive crowd, plunged into the sea off Leven Promenade for the Leven Dip in aid of children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
Afterwards participants were treated to a nip and free hot soup and drinks courtesy of the Caledonian Hotel.
Forty people took the plunge in Anstruther for the East Neuk Dook.
Crowds lined the piers to watch bathers hoping to raise as much as £5,000 for the event’s chosen charity Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help Fife, an armed forces group offering support to current and former servicemen and women and their families.
SSAFA area fundraising coordinator Elaine Michaelson praised volunteers and said all money raised would remain in Fife.
Kevin Corps, who has organised and participated in all 11 Anstruther dooks, said: “It’s been perfect weather and the turnout was good. I would particularly like to thank Anstruther lifeboat and the first responders from RAF Leuchars who gave us medical support. I’m pleased to say we didn’t need to make use of them.”
A dip was also arranged in Perthshire.
Hardy souls plunged into the River Lochay, at the Killin Hotel jetty, to raise cash for the Falls of Dochart Retirement Home roof repair fund.
