DOZENS OF firefighters tackled a massive blaze which broke out at a mill on the Clackmannanshire-Fife border yesterday.
Seventeen crews rushed to Kilbagie Mill, a waste treatment unit a mile north of the Forthside village of Kincardine.
The call was received just after 8am to the site, operated by Oran Environmental Solutions.
No one was injured and all staff were safe.
The fire was in a large warehouse which contained recyclable material such as clothing, mattresses and waste paper.
While the fire itself was being brought under control, fire crews protected surrounding properties using hose reel jets.
Central Scotland chief fire officer Kenneth Taylor said: “Given the scale of combustible material involved, it’s likely this incident will be protracted, with crews having to remain on scene over the next day or two for dampening down.
“We do hope, however, to be able to make inroads over the next few hours in order that we can reduce the extent of the smoke plume.
“We are working with all our partners including, the police, SEPA, Oran, Scottish Power and Clackmannanshire Council to assist in bringing about a resolution.”
