A Dundee pensioner has spoken of his “shock” after being dragged to the ground and robbed as he made his way home from a festive night out.
Norman Brown (68) was left with his hand covered in blood after the mugger made off with less than £10 in cash and the gloves he had received as a Christmas present.
Mr Brown was targeted as he crossed the walkway beside the Pitkerro Road roundabout shortly after midnight on Boxing Day.
Recovering at home, Mr Brown told the Courier: “I was on the middle of the bridge when I got pulled down from behind. I never heard anything before it.
“He never said a word. I tried to grab out at him. I never shouted out but I think I scuffed him on the chin. I was shocked.
“He got my diary and it had a fiver in it. There was about four pounds in change in my pocket and he got my keys and the leather gloves I got for Christmas. He even took the hanky out of my pocket.”
After the robber ran off, Mr Brown made his way to his sister’s to clean up the graze to his hand.
He said: “I got to my sister’s and the blood was all over her wall when I touched it. It was really sore when I woke up in the morning.
“He might do it again I hope they get him before he does.”
Mr Brown had left the Broadway Bar in Erskine Street before walking along Pitkerro Road and crossing the Kingsway walkway.
He was wearing a distinctive green and red festive hat when the robber struck at around 12.15am.
The suspect ran off in the direction of Old Craigie Road. He is described as being stocky, 6ft tall and in his mid-twenties.
Tayside Police are continuing inquiries into the incident, including carrying out a review of local CCTV footage.
A police spokeswoman said officers had also carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area.
Anyone who may have seen Mr Brown just prior to the incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously nearby, or knows where the stolen items are now, should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.
