Ninewells Hospital delivered the first Christmas baby in Scotland last week, and little Ellie Rose Burns’ birth at 00.13am on Tuesday meant the hospital also had the first baby in Tayside and Fife this year.
Weighing 8lb, Ellie arrived at 00.13am on 01/01/2013, making her the second Scottish baby of the year.
Born four days late, her New Year’s Day birth was extra special for first-time parents Michelle and Greg.
“She was due on December 28 so we didn’t think she’d be a New Year’s baby,” Michelle (30) said.
“It’s quite special because it’s a great way to see in the New Year. She’s been unbelievably content and she just sleeps.”
Down the corridor another new arrival was playing the numbers game.
Kate Munro (42) gave birth to a 7lb 5oz baby girl at 7.05am.
“I think I’m going to call her Ella,” Kate said.
“She was due today and I have an auntie and one grandad born on January 1 so she’s carrying on a family tradition.”
Ella was born only an hour after Kate arrived at Ninewells.
“I was watching the telly and trying to keep moving, dancing to Jools Holland and then it all happened very quickly,” Kate said.
Also celebrating the perfect start to the New Year at Ninewells were Yvonne Anderson and Michael Dickson with baby Maisie, and Mike and Alisha Callaghan with little Ellie.
