IT’S BILLED as spiritualism’s answer to the X Factor and one Dundee woman is sitting proudly at the top of the psychic charts after winning the contest to find the world’s best medium.
June Field was crowned International Battle of the Psychics champion in the Ukraine on Christmas Eve following a six-month TV series that saw her fend off 11 other mediums to scoop the title.
Among the judges impressed by June’s abilities was celebrity spoon-bender Uri Geller, who watched the mother-of-one succeed in a host of tasks and challenges before the show’s audience voted her the winner.
Now back at home in the Emmock Woods area of Dundee, June (52) is looking forward to getting back into her daily routine only this time with a new feather in her cap.
She said: “I was absolutely over the moon when they announced I’d won, because it was 4am and I was completely shattered after a long period of filming.
“For six months I’d been living on my own in an apartment in Kiev, opposite the Olympic Stadium, and I’d only been home twice.
“Getting back to Scotland in time for Christmas was fantastic because I’d been away from my home and family for so long.
“I’m so glad to be able to get back to normal and start doing my readings and demonstrations again.”
A worldwide TV audience of millions watched June complete a series of unusual weekly challenges, including performing psychic readings on animals, photographs, celebrities and DNA samples.
She said: “The programme lasted two and a half hours and every week there were tasks to do, with one of the 12 participants being eliminated at the end of the show.
“One person was also voted the best psychic each week, and I won that three times. In the final I got 50% of the audience vote, even though one of the psychics I was up against was Ukrainian.”
June’s demonstration evenings regularly pack out venues across Scotland and she has raised thousands of pounds for various charities.
She is also in huge demand in the US and Canada, where she is often asked to conduct private readings.
June said: “I’ve been ‘seeing dead people’, as you might call it, since I was a very young child.
“I got an email from a channel called STB in Ukraine to say they were doing International Battle of the Psychics and to ask if I’d like to be involved. Not knowing anything about them, I didn’t respond.
“They then emailed me again a while later asking me to go for a week of casting, which I did.”
June was rewarded for her efforts with the International Battle of the Psychics trophy, although she is yet to receive the promised cash prize of £19,000.
