THE OPERATORS of the McManus galleries in Dundee have closed part of the Meadowside building after storm damage caused a leak.
It affected the gallery which housed Selling Dreams: One Hundred Years of Fashion Photography and the exhibition was forced to close a week early.
People who inquired about the exhibition, which was set to finish on Monday, were told there was “a problem with the building”.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan, chairman of Leisure and Culture Dundee, said: “The exhibition has been phenomenally successful, but water came in because of the adverse weather and it has had to close early.
“It will be repaired as quickly as possible. There has been no damage to any of the artwork and the pictures from that area have been removed.”
The exhibition room is located on the first floor of the McManus and has not been open to the public since December 27.
McManus staff have said the rest of the building, which first opened in 1867, is fine.
A McManus spokesman said: “We apologise for any disappointment caused and we would like to assure our visitors that, when the situation is resolved, the gallery will reopen.”
It was confirmed the Selling Dreams exhibition would not reopen in Dundee but will continue its tour at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum from February 2.
