IMPROVEMENTS TO the war memorial atop Dundee Law could be made ahead of the 100th anniversary next year of the start of the First World War.
The proposals, including the screening or removal of the cage used to hold the gas cylinders that light the beacon, are contained in a list of possible actions to make the hill a more attractive place for people to visit.
The city council’s masterplan has been drawn up after public consultations and councillors will be asked next week to approve the creation of detailed designs and allow officers to seek external funding.
Other work that could take place includes upgrades to the road and footpaths, the creation of a heritage trail, improvements to the toilets, the replacement of the old whale sculpture and the setting up of a woodland management plan.
Environment convener Craig Melville said: “I am very pleased at the level of interest that has been shown in the development of a masterplan for the Law.
“There is a shared desire to make improvements to this prominent city landmark, but I understand why this needs to be handled as sensitively as possible.”
Funding applications to the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Forestry Commission are being prepared.
