POLICE ARE hunting thieves who targeted city shops in early-morning raids. The culprits made off with a stash of cigarettes and alcohol after two stores in the city were hit under the cover of darkness on Wednesday. Glass panes at the front entrance of the Co-operative store on Lawers Drive in Panmurefield were shattered during the raid at 5am. It is understood the thieves used a brick to smash their way into the premises before making off with cigarettes and alcohol. The Tesco Express store at the Esso garage on Dalhousie Road in Broughty Ferry was also targeted by thieves attempting to break-in at about 5.30am. No goods were stolen in the incident, but the shop’s window was damaged, with three large impact dents visible. Craig Cameron (42), owner of The Butchers Bakery near the Co-op store, said: “I was dumbfounded and disgusted. “I’ve owned my shop for two years and nothing like that has ever happened.” Forensic teams arrived at both stores and scenes of crime officers were seen dusting for fingerprints in a bid to trace the culprits. A police spokeswoman said the force was not ruling out a link between the two incidents.
