JUST LIKE they say of its famous big sister, looking after the Forth Road Bridge seems a never-ending task.
But now work has been completed on painting the iconic bridge’s main towers.
That means some disruption for drivers as a safety canopy will have to be removed.
The bridge is to be closed to all traffic for several hours over seven nights to remove the dropped object canopy from the north main tower.
It will close completely from 12.30am and 3.30am on the mornings of January 30 and 31, February 1 and 20 and March 6, 7 and 8.
These dates are weather dependent and anyone travelling should check the website for updates.
In addition, traffic will also be restricted to a single lane both ways from 8pm through to 6am every weekday night from January 21 until the end of March.
These restrictions are not expected to cause any significant delays to traffic.
Carried out by the in-house maintenance team, work started in 2006.
The specially designed platform, to protect traffic passing underneath, was winched 156 metres to the top and the painters gradually worked their way down.
The new paint system applied to the towers is similar to that used on the Forth Bridge, and is expected to provide protection for 20 to 30 years before the job needs to be done again.
