The whiteout conditions which hit Perthshire on Tuesday brought tragedy in their wake.
The A9 was twice blocked by serious accidents during the day the second one causing the death of a man north of Dunkeld at 8.20pm when his car and a whisky tanker lorry were in collision in heavy snow at the Dalguise junction.
The man, who has not been named and is believed to be in his 20s, was the only occupant of the blue Renault Clio which was travelling north when it collided with the southbound tanker.
The 44-year-old man driving the lorry was not injured.
Earlier, another lorry and two cars collided at Kindallachan in Highland Perthshire in dreadful conditions, shortly before 12pm.
Both accidents closed the A9 for long periods, with further problems caused by side roads being impassable for detours.
After the earlier crash, north-bound motorists had to detour via Glasgow and Fort William, or Dundee and Aberdeen.
Although a 70-year-old man was taken to Ninewells hospital with minor injuries, others involved in the Kindallachan accident escaped unscathed.
There were further incidents on the roads, including on the A94 near Perth Airport where a lorry jack-knifed causing disruption to early morning traffic, and on the A9 near Gleneagles, where a National Express bus came off the road.
