Former pub run by ex-Dundee United star could take on new role in city centre

A former pub in Dundee city centre could find a new use.
The Star and Garter on Union Street closed a year ago.
It had been run by ex-Dundee United footballer Charlie Adam, who died last month. Allermuir Property Investment now has planning permission to turn the premises into a shop, offices or a restaurant.
Its agents told the council that efforts to find tenants for the premises as a pub had proved unsuccessful. The company wants flexibility to find a new occupier.
It said: “The intention is to undertake a comprehensive marketing campaign with a view to bringing the property back into use for the benefit of this important area of the city centre.”
Union Street is due to become a key route from the city centre to the revamped waterfront.
A council planning officer said: “The proposed alternative uses may help to secure the future of the property.
“Although the windows and inner entrance doors are to be replaced, it is considered that these alterations will have a minimal impact on the appearance of the building and that its historic character will be maintained.”
