Ed Miliband says Remploy workers are being ‘left on the scrapheap’

Remploy workers are being left “on the scrapheap”, according to the leader of the Labour Party.
Ed Miliband backed campaigns including that of Fife MPs Gordon Brown, Lindsay Roy and Thomas Docherty to try and save the factories.
The Dundee, Cowdenbeath and Leven sites, which are staffed by disabled people, are all due to close in the coming months but the Fife representatives say they have held talks with two potential buyers.
Mr Miliband said: “They are totally right to be campaigning on this because the reality is, nobody is saying there doesn’t need to be change but the question is how do you implement that change?
“If you just pull the rug from under the Remploy workers and that is what’s happened with the nature of the change, the fact is that they’re not going to be offered alternative employment.
“You’ve got five, 10, 15 people chasing each vacancy and that’s why there’s such anger about the Remploy situation.
“We’ve got to look at all of the possibilities as to how we can help the Remploy workers and not just leave them on scrapheap.”
