The five-strong paramedic team that will crew Scotland’s first charity-funded helicopter air ambulance have begun an intensive training regime to ready them for the skies.
They have been working tirelessly with the Bolkow 105 helicopter that will transport them to the scene of accidents across Scotland.
A two-week course in aviation, including flying, navigation, meteorology and flight-specific medical skills is already well under way.
The team will soon head to Inverness for six weeks of intensive training with one of Scotland’s two Government-funded air ambulance crews.
Their experience will prove invaluable to the team from Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) as it bids to take flight later this year.
Fundraising is progressing towards the £1.5 million a year cost of running the operation and each member of the new team has been busy raising awareness of the life-saving project in their own communities.
All five volunteers are formerly road ambulance paramedics.
