Strathmore Rugby Club’s under-18s will embark on a long trip this weekend in their quest for glory.
The Strathie youngsters were drawn against Orkney U18s in the District Cup competition three weeks ago.
After a few days pondering whether or not they could fulfill the commitment, team organiser Yvonne Robertson said the club decided to pull out the stops so the young players could enjoy the memorable experience.
“We decided to do our best to make this happen for the boys buses, ferries, and hostels will all be part of their rugby adventure for this committed group of players.
“We will have 19 players going to Orkney which is pretty impressive at such short notice.”
Support from JP Coaches, North Street Dairy, Colin M Smith, Saddler’s Bakers and M&S Richardson Newsagent helped the trip become a reality. The club said it was extremely grateful for the vital backing.
Long-serving coaches Colin Robertson and Les Coupar will manage the squad through the trip.
They will leave Forfar by bus on Saturday afternoon for the Aberdeen ferry, and will overnight in Kirkwall. They will then play on Sunday before returning by ferry to Scabster and onwards by bus to Forfar.
