An Arbroath man who grew five cannabis plants in his home has been fined £200.
John Strathdee (42), of Newton Avenue, admitted that on November 25 at his home address he possessed the controlled drug diazepam and produced the controlled drug cannabis.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said police had acted after a strong smell of cannabis was reported as coming from Strathdee’s flat.
She said: “As a result a search warrant was obtained by police and entry to the flat was forced.
“A tent in the bedroom contained five cannabis plants at various stages of development. There were also various lights and filters used for growing the plant.”
Defence agent Billy Rennie said the cannabis was being grown for personal use.
He said: “He is a heavy cannabis user and this was his attempt to spend less money buying it. The diazepam found in the flat was from years ago and he didn’t even remember having it.”
