Residents of a Perth street were left terrified when a complete stranger began walking through their gardens and tried to enter their homes, the city’s Sheriff Court heard.
David Kerwin was spotted “staggering” along Tweedsmuir Road, falling across driveways and into gardens. The 32-year-old then walked into a property and started shouting at the bewildered owner, asking where his children were.
The police were called and attempted to restrain Kerwin. He failed to cooperate, however, and kept one of his arms raised to prevent them from cuffing it and also started to lash out with his arms and legs, eventually forcing the officers to place him in leg restraints.
Solicitor David Holmes said his client had spent some time in the army, serving in Kosovo, and has since had “difficulty dealing with that”, leading to his criminal record.
“On this occasion, we see he has taken valium and rarely will people who take that remember what they are doing,” he added.
Kerwin, of Scott Street, admitted that on October 4 he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm by entering a property uninvited.
He also admitted resisting, obstructing, hindering and molesting a police constable in their duty. He was placed on a restriction of liberty order for seven months.
