Oscar Pistorius arrested after woman shot dead at his home

A woman has been found shot dead at the home of South African Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius.

Police in the country have told local media that the woman was his girlfriend and she was shot in the head and arm at his home in Pretoria.

The incident is said to have happened at 4am today but the circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear.

Pistorius has been arrested and questioned by South African police, reports say.

Kribani Pillay, from Johannesburg’s Talk Radio 702, told Sky that police had arrested a 26-year-old man believed to be Pistorius on suspicion of murder.

She said Pistorius told police that he thought the woman was an intruder.

She confirmed that there was speculation the shooting may have been a Valentine’s Day surprise gone wrong.

Miss Pillay said the area around Pistorius’ home was “teeming” with emergency services, media and onlookers.

Pistorius (26) was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics.
