VIDEO: The Other Guys set their hearts on a Valentine’s Day No.1

The Other Guys.
The Other Guys.

A Fife choir which hit the Scottish top 40 at Christmas is within kissing distance of the Valentine’s Day number one spot.

The Other Guys, whose fans include the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have released a romantic single in time for February 14.

I Only Bought You Flowers Because I Love You So, featuring Oscar Foxley, was at number two in the iTunes classical chart.

The a cappella outfit, made up of students from St Andrews University, has set its heart on snatching the top spot from Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

Member Tex Haxby said: “It would be pretty amazing if we could get a number one. We tried at Christmas and didn’t quite make it.

“This is our second original song and it’s great to see it getting such a positive response.

“It’s been a very exciting few days and it has climbed the charts much more quickly than we could have expected.”

The boys’ fame soared in 2011 when their music video Royal Romance, a humorous tale of unrequited love for the Duchess when she was a student in St Andrews, became a YouTube sensation in the run up to the Royal Wedding, earning them global attention.

Their latest song, only released on Monday, is among five on the 12-piece band’s new EP Just For You.

The Other Guys’ Christmas single Christmas Gets Worse Every Year reached 32 in the Scottish charts and number nine in the independent chart, with profits from its sale going to the university’s 600th anniversary bursary fund.
