A confiscation order of almost £15,000 has been made against an Angus benefits cheat.
At Arbroath Sheriff Court, 52-year-old Frank McCabe was ordered to repay £14,360.47, nearly 18 months after admitting falsely claiming £19,500.
In August 2011, McCabe, from Monifieth, admitted an indictment brought under the Social Security Administration Act 1992 relating to offences between March 2004 and February 2010.
McCabe claimed income support while failing to report he was living at his home address with his wife, which would have affected his entitlement.
He was sentenced to 225 hours’ community service on October 25 2011. The order followed an application by the Crown under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and Proceeds of Crime (Scotland) Act 1995.
Lindsey Miller, head of the serious and organised crime division, said: “Frank McCabe claimed thousands of pounds of public money which he was not entitled to because of his personal circumstances.
“He has been ordered to repay £14,360.47, which represents the amount available to us at this time.
“The money confiscated from McCabe will be added to the more than £60 million already gathered from proceeds of crime, to be reinvested into the community through the CashBack for Communities programme.”
