William Coutts Houston was fined and banned from driving during his appearance at Dundee Sheriff Court.
A Dundee father who raced to assist his daughter in an alleged domestic assault was arrested after being found in his car while more than twice the limit.
William Coutts Houston (51), of Lawson Place, a first offender, had been at a party the night before and had gone home with his wife in a taxi after escorting their daughter home after an argument with a man.
The court heard his daughter had phoned Houston at about 5.30am saying she had been involved in an altercation. Police arrived at the scene and saw Houston emerge from the driver’s side and police found keys in the ignition and the accused smelling strongly of alcohol. He admitted being in charge of a car with excess alcohol (86 mics) on Balunie Drive on Sunday.
Solicitor Lynne McVicar said had it not been for him answering his daughter’s plea for help he would not be in court at all.
He was fined £265 and disqualified from driving for eight months.
