Olly Murs has explained his decision to strip off for a photo in his big red chair after his contestant, Molly Hocking, won the UK series of The Voice.

After the victory the singer shared a picture on Instagram of him celebrating in the nude in the TV studio and wrote: “The Winner takes it off.”

Former X Factor star Murs told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “It has become a thing, I did it at Soccer Aid last year. Whenever I win something I always like to get naked for some reason.

“I don’t know why, it’s just something funny and I just decided to get in the chair naked, I thought it was just a bit of a laugh, I’m just so happy.”

Hocking’s win was a first victory for Murs since he joined The Voice in 2017 alongside fellow coaches Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am.

He added: “Ten years ago I did The X Factor and it was 10 years ago this year and I finished runner-up, so for me and Molly to win on Saturday was just, for me personally, was just so amazing.”

Reflecting on Hocking’s first audition, he said: “I watched it back yesterday because I just wanted to remember that moment when we first saw Molly for the first time, and I don’t know what it was but as soon as you started singing the first few notes, I just loved it and had to press my button.

“Tom and Jennifer and Will were going ‘I don’t know’ and I was like ‘This is proper talent, she’s going to win’.

“As soon as I had Molly on my team I thought if she continues to grow as she was growing, we’ve got a fantastic star.”

Hocking said her victory had still not sunk in, saying: “I just can’t bring myself to say those words, it’s so surreal.

“I never, ever thought I would be in this position so I never really play that out in my head.

“It’s the best feeling in the world at the moment because this is the first thing I’ve ever won in my life and it’s a great first win.”

She added: “I went shopping for some new dresses and I got absolutely bombarded with people asking me for photos and it’s so lovely.”
