Carse of Gowrie councillor Mac Roberts said the solution to the Invergowrie’s doctors’ surgery problem is right on its doorstep.
Converting the soon-to-be-vacated Invergowrie Primary School into a health centre is an option that should be seriously considered, he said.
The old school is next to the surgery on Errol Road, which the Conservative member said was “little bigger than a shed” and inadequate for meeting the healthcare needs of a patient list which has grown to more than 1,500.
As we reported, the three doctors have to share a single consulting room on a rota basis and cannot provide the range of services offered by other surgeries.
“Invergowrie is no longer a village but is a small town and the population is getting bigger,” Mr Roberts said. “Comparing the surgery in Invergowrie with the one in Muirhead is like chalk and cheese.
“Invergowrie deserves a health centre and the fact that the school building right next door is soon going to be vacant with a new school built behind, it would seem to offer a good solution.
“People want good local services and a health centre in the school would be one.”
A new, purpose-built health centre to the West of the existing surgery would be another approach but would be more expensive.
