AILING PHONE maker Nokia has revealed a poor outlook, saying it expected it would continue to struggle against fierce competition from Samsung and Apple.
It sold 15.9 million smartphones in its fourth quarter, down from 19.6 million a year earlier.
Profits reached 202 million euros against a net loss of more than 1bn euros a year ago, but revenue fell 20% to around 8bn euros.
The news came as shares in Apple plunged 10% in early trading in New York, replicating a similar fall the previous evening.
It reported record revenues of $54.5bn late on Wednesday but suffered on the NASDAQ because it failed to match Wall Street’s $55bn forecasts.
Phone and technology retailer Carphone Warehouse revealed a like-for-like surge of 16% in its third quarter, driven by a festive sales boost for tablets.
The company expects to notch up pre-tax profits of between £135 million and £145m for the year.
