Large turnout to turn up Perthshire’s hidden treasure
ByThe Courier Reporter
More than 80 metal detectorists from all over Scotland descended on fields in Perthshire to take part in a rally organised by Detectingscotland.com.
There were many interesting discoveries of Victorian silver coins but the finds of the day were an Edward I silver coin, a Scots five-shilling piece from the time of William III, and a military button dated to 1790 all found by Jim Connolly.
The turnout near Bridge of Earn was the biggest on record.
One organiser suggested that this was due to the recent screening of the MacKenzie Crooks comedy series Detectorists, which has just finished being shown on BBC 4.
