Perthshire played a part in the International Year of Forests at the weekend when Scone Palace hosted its first forest festival.
The event was staged in the natural amphitheatre of the palace’s 19th-century pinetum. The location boasts many notable trees, and features avenues of exotic species and David Douglas introductions.
Aimed at raising awareness of the importance of forests environmentally, commercially and for leisure, the weekend saw a range of attractions including willow sculptor Trevor Leat, wildlife trails with living history characters, a chainsaw sculptor and al fresco dining.
The festival also featured Climb a Mile to raise funds for Help for Heroes, which involved teams climbing a 42m-high tree 54 times to reach their goal.
