New owners of Taychreggan Hotel aim to serve up family-friendly atmosphere

The award-winning Taychreggan Hotel in Broughty Ferry is under new ownership.

The move by local tennis coach Andrew Fairley and his wife Kate may be a change of direction, but is the culmination of a long-held ambition for the couple.

“The hospitality industry was always something that we had been interested in, so when it was brought to our attention that the Taychreggan was coming on the market we had to take a look,” said Mr Fairley.

Regulars needn’t fear that the new brooms will be sweeping clean, however, as the Fairleys were attracted to the opportunity because they already knew the hotel in Ellieslea Road and were impressed by what they had seen.

“It had a great reputation and we are very excited to be taking it on,” said Andrew. “We want to build on the excellent standards set by the previous owners and add a few touches of our own personality.”

As parents of two young children themselves daughter Anna will be five in June and son Alexander is just three months old the Fairleys are also keen to provide a welcoming atmosphere for families.

“We would also like to develop the small function side of the business,” added Mr Fairley. “We are lucky to have a beautiful garden which we think makes it an ideal venue for all kind of family celebrations, like christenings and wedding anniversaries, as well as golf parties and business meetings.”

Although he is being kept busy by his new enterprise, Andrew is not turning his back on his first love, tennis, and will be continuing to coach at David Lloyd in Monifieth and Dundee High School.
