The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday will strike a particular chord with Dundee woman Lisa Campbell.

Lisa met her husband Cory when they worked for the royal household in the 1990s and, though her six years at Buckingham Palace did not include any weddings, she is still the proud owner of some unusual memorabilia.

Lisa said, “I was having a clearout of all kinds of files in my office and I came across a box containing a number of wedding cake boxes.”

It emerged that the boxes were from three recent royal weddings between Princess Anne and Mark Phillips in 1973, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

The boxes even contain long-forgotten lumps of cake though they’re so old that they look more like clootie dumpling,” said Lisa.

“I asked my boss, ‘What’s the story with these? Do they go to the archives?’ but I was told I could do what I wanted with them.”

She added, “Probably what happened was that they were just spare and they were put in the cupboard, nobody needed them and they were forgotten about.”

Lisa has fond memories of her time as a catering office manager at the palace.

She said, “It was just such a lovely, family, supportive environment to work in and I have many, many friends who work there still.”
