Parent power reigns at North Inch park

Perth parents have taken matters into their own hands after becoming fed up of delays in opening a recently refurbished play area.

After discovering a gap in fencing surrounding the playpark at the North Inch, they decided to get a sneak preview of the new equipment at the weekend.

Undeterred by warnings to stay off the site, dozens of mums and dads were soon making the most of the warm weather and taking their little ones to the play area, which proved very popular.

One local parent explained the decision to open the park earlier than scheduled, saying, “When the play area was not completed in time for the Easter weekend, frustrated parents seem to have taken matters into their own hands.

“Despite the Heras fence cordon and notices warning of security patrols, a section of fence was opened allowing access to the almost completed facility.

“The new play equipment was great and my six-year-old daughter loved it. The only complaint would be that some of the equipment became a bit crowded, given the nice weather.”

However, this fun has been cut short as a spokeswoman from Perth and Kinross Council confirmed the gap in the fence had since been secured.

“We would ask, in the interests of safety, that parents and children do not enter the site meantime,” she added.

It is now hoped that the play area will officially be opened this weekend, after final inspections.
