Visitors to the Showcase The Street studio, John Street, on Saturday were treated to demonstrations of capoeira a Brazilian street dance that has enjoyed a huge surge in popularity around the world.
Developed by African slaves as a ritualised or disguised form of fighting, its exciting combination of dance, music and playful martial art has gone down a storm, not only for its stunning moves but also as a way of improving fitness and gaining strength and flexibility.
Experienced capoeira dancers from across Scotland were on hand at the special showcase and demonstration on Saturday, including some who had only recently returned from extensive training in Rio de Janeiro.
The extravaganza was organised by the Dundee branch of Scottish capoeira group Mao No Chao, which also runs regular classes at Showcase The Street in Dundee.
