Forfar Athletic chairman Neill Wilson has paid a heartfelt tribute to people behind the scenes at Station Park as the club celebrated promotion to the second division after a play-off victory over Angus neighbours Arbroath.

Wilson said he was delighted to see the Loons back in the second division, which he believes can be a happy hunting ground again.

Finishing bottom of Scottish football a couple of seasons ago was one of the bleakest chapters in Station Park history and something the ex-Loons player found hard to take.

Wilson said, “I’m absolutely delighted for Dick and his players. I’ve never really thought of Forfar as a third-division club and I am sure we will take the chance to prove what we are capable of in the second.

“I don’t enjoy the play-off situation, but it’s what you have to go through and I think our second place in the league has vindicated our progress into the second division.”

He added, “I wish to offer my own congratulations to Dick Campbell and his brother, Ian, for fulfilling their aim of attaining second-division status for the club.

“But I would also like to pay special tribute to the myriad of unpaid helpers who should not underestimate their contribution to the club and the success we have enjoyed today.”

Wilson said, “Everyone behind the scenes has helped it’s not just the goal-scorers and the team who bring days like this, it is the people who have given the board and the team the opportunity to progress the club.”
