A record total of a dozen £1 million-plus properties changed hands in Courier country last year.
The sales were revealed in a new report which shows the number of million pound property sales in Scotland has increased at the fastest rate for three years. Officials at the Bank of Scotland, which conducted the research, said the figures are evidence of “a real resurgence” at the very top end of the housing market.
It is estimated that there are now 3200 homes in Scotland worth at least £1 million. Last year a total of six properties sold in Fife for seven-figure sums, while a further six in Perth and Kinross also changed hands for more than the magical million.
Nearly half of all last year’s top-end sales were in Edinburgh, with a total of 70 properties. This was significantly higher than anywhere else in Scotland and the highest total in Britain outside southern England.
Aberdeen, at 10 properties, recorded the second highest number of sales. Meanwhile, three-quarters of all local authority districts in Scotland saw at least one sale of over £1 million in 2010.
Among the most expensive properties of the year was an unassuming St Andrews home its anything-but-normal outlook resulted in it selling for more than £3.75 million.
The eye-watering total was paid by an American businessman for the townhouse on The Links. While it may not look like your stereotypical millionaire’s mansion, it does boast uninterrupted views over the 18th green of the Old Course.
