Newlyweds Graeme and Chloe Jones set sail for the voyage of a lifetime at the weekend as they tied the knot on the deck of the Discovery.
The Joneses were the lucky winners of an exclusive Courier competition in association with Dundee Heritage Trust their prize just about everything you could possibly need to get married on the historic attraction.
But the couple knew very little about their winnings because mother-of-the-bride Lynn MacFarlane, from Dundee, had entered on their behalf and without letting on.
“Everything was organised at the hotel, but I just saw it in the paper and thought I’d give it a go,” Lynn said.
“When she found out my daughter just said ‘Mum! What have you done?’
“But I told her the story and they came down and had a look and decided it was perfect.”
In between photos with their guests and families Graeme (27), who works in nursing, and Chloe (25), who works at the city’s HMRC offices, said they had had a great day.
Chloe, in what she described as a “Cinderalla-esque ballgown” said, “It’s gone really well.
“We’ve had a lovely day for it. Everyone has been really helpful and the staff here have been brilliant.”
“It’s really nice,” agreed Graeme. “I’m quite proud, really, to be from Dundee and able to get married on a Dundee icon like the Discovery.”
After champagne and strawberries the newlyweds headed for a reception at the Apex Hotel.
The couple will enjoy a mini-honeymoon in London before they settle into a new home in Carnoustie.
