A heartbroken design engineer caught travelling at almost 107mph on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road after an emotional meeting with his former girlfriend escaped without a driving ban when he appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court.
Pawel Rydzewski (29) was returning to his home in Cairnfield Place, Aberdeen, at around 9am on the morning of March 26 when he was stopped by officers at Quilloe in Angus.
The accused had been returning from Kirkcaldy where he had been visiting the woman, who had recently ended their 10-year relationship to be with another man.
His solicitor, Amy Walsh, told the court on Thursday that Rydzewski was “very upset and confused” after his former partner had apologised for her infidelity.
Ms Walsh added that when her client was stopped he was unaware that he had been driving at 106.8mph.
She said, “He was surprised to learn he had been driving so fast his mind was just elsewhere.”
Ms Walsh said it would take Rydzewski around two hours to travel from his home in the Bucksburn area of Aberdeen to his place of employment in Portlethen should he lose his licence. She also advised the court that her client regularly travelled to meet business contacts and would be greatly disadvantaged by being disqualified.
Sheriff Kevin Veal imposed a £500 fine on the accused and issued him with six penalty points.
He said, “If you commit a further driving offence at this level, it could lead to the loss of your licence.”
