A woman died after a two-car accident on the A9 in Highland Perthshire on Sunday.
The woman was trapped in the wreckage of a silver Kia Sedona, which tipped on to its side after a collision with a Volkswagen Golf.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the road’s southbound carriageway at East Haugh, near Pitlochry, at around 4.40pm.
Firefighters freed the driver and she was rushed by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. Sadly, it was later confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries.
The male driver and two passengers from the Golf, along with the front-seat passenger of the Kia, were also taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not considered serious.
The road was closed in both directions for around two and a half hours.
Queues over two miles long quickly built up on the southbound carriageway, while traffic was queued as far back as Ballinluig on the northbound carriageway.
Diversions were put in place on back roads, directing motorists via Weem and Tummel Bridge, before rejoining the A9 at Killiecrankie and at Ballinluig.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who saw either car before the crash is asked to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.
