Dundee FC mascot Deewok is ‘very happy’ at dropping of assault charge

The man behind Dundee FC’s Deewok mascot was “very happy” when an assault charge against him over an incident at Dens Park was dropped.

Andy Lynn (41), from Edinburgh, had been due to face the charge at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday .

Mr Lynn had been arrested following an alleged confrontation with a Partick Thistle supporter outside the commentator’s box at Dens Park during the match between the two sides on April 30.

It is understood Mr Lynn, who arrived at court wearing a Dundee FC pin badge in the lapel of his suit jacket, has instead been spoken to by the fiscal’s office and warned about his future conduct.

The alleged bust-up was understood to have taken place in full view of fans following Dundee’s second goal of the match, which the Dark Blues went on to win 3-2.

The 47-year-old Partick Thistle fan, who was ejected from the ground following the alleged incident, was also expected to appear at the sheriff court, but his case was not called.

The pair had been charged by Tayside Police in connection with the incident and a report had been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Mr Lynn was not suspended by the club during the investigation and is expected to continue as the popular Dens Park mascot.

When asked how he felt about the Crown’s decision not to pursue the case, Mr Lynn said, “I am very happy let’s just say that.”

A spokesman for Dundee FC said earlier this week that the club had not been aware of the incident and there would have been “no reason for us to be told.”

The Deewok bear mascot has been a Dens Park fixture for more than a decade and performs a number of charity and school visits throughout the year, as well as its traditional role of rousing the Dundee FC home fans.
