A popular Angus music venue is up for a top gong after being nominated in the country’s national jazz awards.
The cream of Scotland’s talent will compete for the Scottish Jazz Awards 2011 presented by the Scottish Jazz Federation and Jazz International.
Hospitalfield House in Arbroath has featured prominently in the award categories and will compete with three other clubs for venue of the year.
Alan Steadman has been nominated as promoter of the year and the Hospitalfield Suite, which was commissioned by Mr Steadman to celebrate the venue’s 20th birthday, has also been included in the best jazz project.
Mr Steadman said, “I’m delighted that Hospitalfield has featured so prominently … I’m particularly pleased that the Hospitalfield Suite has made it to the finals of the best project.
“This new piece of music written by Paul Harrison and performed by his quintet on three separate occasions last year was commissioned to celebrate the venue’s 20th anniversary and it encapsulated very well all that Jazz at Hospitalfield stands for.”
Jazz events at Hospitalfield House burst on to the Angus music scene 20 years ago. The popular monthly jazz nights are always in high demand with capacity crowds and quality acts from America, Europe and the UK topping the bill.
The awards evening will be held in Glasgow on June 28.
