Perth has been given a timely jobs boost with the news of a new store opening in the Fair City.
Independent builders’ merchants MKM is to open a branch on Glenearn Road, creating a dozen jobs.
It is the third Scottish branch of the Hull-based business, with others already in Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy.
David Kilburn, chief executive of MKM, said the move is a show of faith in the Scottish construction industry, despite trying times.
He said, “We haven’t opened a new MKM branch in the past two years, so the whole team is really looking forward to the opening of our Perth branch.
“We are becoming increasingly confident in the future of the construction industry, in particular Scotland.
“This is why we have decided to embark upon an exciting plan of expansion which will hopefully see us launch 12 new branches throughout the UK over the next few years.
“We have hand-picked a fantastic team of local experts to run our Perth branch, including Alan Patterson, who has been appointed as branch director.
“Whilst we have many MKM branches throughout the country, each branch director is left alone to run their branch as they see fit, and we are confident that Alan will do a great job.”
Mr Patterson said, “I really enjoy striking a deal with the customer and working without any constraints.
“We are already receiving orders and customers can’t wait for us to open, so we are confident the new MKM Perth branch will be a great success.”
