A host of celebrities and former footballers are lined up to take part in a golf tournament in Spain to raise funds for the Mary Leishman Foundation.
Mary was the wife of Dunfermline FC’s Jim Leishman. She died in February 2009 after a brave battle with cancer. Jim established the foundation in memory of her and has since organised several high-profile events to raise money for the charity, including a trek along the Fife coastal path, climbing Beinn na Lap in the western Highlands and a firewalk at East End Park.
The Pars director of football will be flying out to the golf event which is being held at Club de Golf la Peraleja from Edinburgh Airport next Thursday. He will be joined by former TV presenter John Leslie, entertainer Bobby Davro, golfer Gordon Sherry and an array of ex-footballers including former Dunfermline striker John Watson, Liverpool legends Jimmy Case and David Johnson, Gordon Durie, Joe Harper, John Brownlee, Peter Cormack, Jackie McNamara sen and current Pars boss Jim McIntyre.
Jim Leishman said that he was looking forward to the event. “There’s a big group of people going, it’s great. It’s not so much for myself but obviously for the charity.
“It’s great to meet all these people like John Leslie and Bobby Davro, excellent, and there will be great camaraderie when we are there.”
The amount raised stands at around £250,000, he added.
The golf tournament takes place on Saturday, May 28 and will be followed by a prize-giving dinner/disco at the Hotel Spa Torre Pacheco, attended by over 300 guests. They will also watch the Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United and an auction will include a signed Lionel Messi shirt and a signed strip donated by Sir Alex Ferguson.
