Brechin City boss Jim Weir irked by late line-up change

Boss Jim Weir has revealed he had to change his team line up for Wednesday night’s play-off final first leg against Ayr United just 90 minutes before kick-off.
It was only after the squad’s pre-match meal that experienced defender Roy McBain broke the news he’d be unable to take part because of illness, forcing a late rethink, and in came Paul McLean at full-back.
As Weir pointed out, it was far from an ideal situation.
“It was quarter past six when Roy told us he didn’t feel up to playing,” he said. “He hadn’t felt well earlier in the day but he thought that eating some food would sort him out.
“That didn’t happen and he didn’t feel he could do himself and the team justice.
“It’s not what you want in the run-up to a big match but you just have to get on with it.”
Weir is hopeful that McBain will be back to full health for the return leg at Glebe Park on Sunday, which will start with the score 1-1 after the midweek opener.Brechin have arranged a home pre-season friendly against first division champions Dunfermline on Tuesday, July 5 (ko 7.45pm).
